- Admittedly the above is based on a memory of the game when played on a
- 500 quite some time ago. I just took the opportunity to download a more
- recent version, (2.1, the latest available on local BBSs, as FTPing is
- ridiculously slow today). It plays a fair whack better on an accelerated
- 1200.

- By default it opens in interlace for the title, nothing to whinge about.
- Running the prefs program, I found that choosing PAL-HiRes left the
- main program reporting "can't get screen" or something similar on startup.
- (It did work later though, I have no idea what happened the first time).
- Anyway, opening a different type of screen worked just fine but instead of,
- say, Lores 320x256 it's an autoscrolling 640x512 screen in Lores, which is
- even harder to use than the flickering interlace.

- That's my point really. BaldersGrove is 100% system friendly. It hits
- hardware registers, but works on every system I've thrown it at.
- Possibly not with future machines, but that isn't something I expect.
- This seems to be frowned upon, and that is what I disagree with.
- I'm happy to let 100% OS friendly and 100% system friendly programs
- live in peace, but the latter seem to get screwed over by the more
- vehement of the OS people.

- Fails miserably was too harsh, and I apologise. I guess I was looking for
- an exact copy of Boulderdash, and understandably Diamond Caves isn't since
- it isn't really based on Boulderdash as you say in the documentation.
- The flexibility is impressive, commendations.

- What draws me to BaldersGrove, as well as the speed, is just the way it
- feels. I don't know what it is, but it plays identically to the way I
- remember Boulderdash (except with two players of course). Maybe it's that
- the input seems to work in timing pulses. Maybe it's the block scrolling
- as opposed to scrolling by pixel. It's hard to put a finger on really.
